Boys Hope Girls Hope was founded in 1977 in St. Louis, MO, as a residential program designed to empower academically capable young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to overcome their individual obstacles and become responsible and productive members of their communities. Now in 15 U.S. cities and three foreign countries, Boys Hope Girls Hope serves young people through two areas of concentration: Education as a means of realizing one's potential and Value-centered environments. Through our partnership with the EBRP School System, BHGH-BR offers our traditional range of services in a non-residential format to a larger number of Baton Rouge's young scholars. The Road To Excellence (R2E) community based program, piloted in the summer of 2014, equips our scholars with engaging activities related to 7 core areas (physical, social, emotional, academic, ethical, economic literacy, entrepreneurial skill set and leadership), thoughtful discussions with civic leaders and college prep curriculum. All of our R2E scholars are excelling in academics and extracurricular activities, including chess, karate, wrestling, swimming, acting and many other endeavors. Additionally, they have been great ambassadors of R2E in media and at community empowerment events. Road to Excellence scholars have access to the same education, counseling, mentoring, and programming services as our residential scholars, including Boys Hope Girls Hope's College Road Curriculum which is our exhaustive and nationally-recognized college preparation curriculum.
